RCT Registries

Research is a continuous process. Many of the programs that are highlighted on the CEBC website currently have Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) underway. The results of these studies, once they are published in peer-reviewed literature may influence the rating for the program. However, since it often takes a long time for results to be published there are available registries of RCTs that provide consumers with further information about current research studies. Information regarding the two most comprehensive registries, including links to them, is listed below.

CRISP (Computer Retrieval of Information on Scientific Projects) is a searchable database of federally funded biomedical research projects conducted at universities, hospitals, and other research institutions. The database, maintained by the Office of Extramural Research at the National Institutes of Health, includes projects funded by

  • The National Institutes of Health (NIH)
  • Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services (SAMHSA)
  • Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)
  • Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
  • Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDCP)
  • Agency for Health Care Research and Quality (AHRQ), and
  • Office of Assistant Secretary of Health (OASH).
  • Users, including the public, can use the CRISP interface to search for scientific concepts, emerging trends and techniques, or identify specific projects and/or investigators. (From the CRISP website: http://crisp.cit.nih.gov/)

ClinicalTrials.gov is a registry of federally and privately supported clinical trials conducted in the United States and around the world. ClinicalTrials.gov gives you information about a trial's purpose, who may participate, locations, and phone numbers for more details. (From the Clinical Trials website: http://clinicaltrials.gov/)

Note that there are other registries of RCTs but they are sponsored by pharmaceutical companies or focus on specific conditions that are not relevant to child welfare.
